Hello Neighbor Review: Find Your Neighbor’s Sinister Secrets

Hello Neighbor is the game which is based on the paranoid idea of your neighbors having something hidden behind the closed doors. If you never thought the people living nearby have something to hide after playing this game you definitely will.

Graphics — 5/5

Hello Neighbor is a mysterious stealth game with immaculate visual performance. It runs a cartoonish graphics in the Pixar style. It is not meant to fear you with the gloomy visuals, so everything is colorful and bright here.

Pleasant style and simple textures are going to please your eyes. This is not a picture specific to horrors, otherwise, it looks more like a funny indie adventure game.

Intense sound effects which are the typical elements of horror are curiously combined with colorful surroundings. Moreover, there are a lot of locations and interiors beautifully-designed.

Gameplay — 4.5/5

In Hello Neighbor, you are going to play as the main character who just moved to a quiet suburb. On a sudden, you’ll get a strange feeling that your neighbor is a suspicious person. Thus, you would like to find out what's the matter with him.

So your mission is to penetrate the neighbor’s house and manage an investigation.

The things you will find out in the neighbor’s basement are the central part of the game's horror. Your neighbor in his turn (or to be more exact the AI which controls the character) will be unsatisfied with an uninvited guest. So he will prepare some traps and tricks for you. Are you ready to confront your suspicious neighbor?

Controls — 4/5

Hello Neighbor controls are not a part of the game’s fun as they require time and efforts to get used to them. However, over time you are going to learn them, and the things will get much better.

Right from the start, you should know a few combinations essential for the early playing. Shift is for the run. E button is for interacting with different objects. Use W, A, S, D for movements and jump with Spacebar. The right mouse button is meant to assist you in throwing the objects.

Replay Value — 4/5

Hello Neighbor is full of logical puzzles which you need to solve right from the beginning. After you penetrate the neighbor’s house, you will get a whole bunch of them and simultaneously to hide from the neighbor.

No matter how long you play the mechanics remain the same. And that is a disadvantage of the game. Apart from taking and throwing things, and wandering around the house with short races from your opponent, nothing else will happen.

Moreover, the game abrupts suddenly when you got caught by the neighbor. And you need to start everything from the beginning. That is also a big game’s flaw.

That is why there’s no much chance you would like to play Hello Neighbor again. The replay value, in this case, is doubtful and lacks logic.

In the beginning, Hello Neighbor can catch you with its graphics and mystery in the gameplay. But soon you will notice that the solution of puzzles has no obvious connection with the game’s logic. Races with your neighbor are exciting in the beginning. But soon this activity will exhaust you. Apart from cute visual style and races with a neighbor, Hello Neighbor is a failure. All together its campaign,  gameplay, plot, and technical implementation are not worth much of attention.
